Abstract

Numerical literacy is a person's ability to read, write, speak, calculate, and solve problems at the level of expertise required in work, family, and society. Numerical literacy is functional literacy that is very useful in everyday life, both in learning, working and interacting activities. This study aims to measure the numeracy and literacy skills in exposition texts of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 5 Bitung using the Problem Based Learning (PBM) model. This study used a quantitative descriptive method and the research subjects were students in class VIII-4 SMP Negeri 5 Bitung for the 2022-2023 academic year, with a total of 28 students. The techniques used in this study to collect data were observation, interviews and written tests. While data analysis in this study uses the percentage formula. The results showed that students had an overall score of 85.03%, which was considered capable of numeracy literacy using problem-based learning models that could increase student engagement and improve their understanding of the material. This also helps in preparing students to take the Computer-Based National Assessment exam.
